Mentai-ju News vol.9
The clear autumn weather is pleasant, but the mornings and evenings are getting chillier.
One of the autumn traditions in Hakata is the Nakasu Festival.
This is an annual festival that makes the town of Nakasu, located close to our store, even more lively.
Since 1976, the event has been held with the message, "Let's do our best in this recession! Let's liven things up from Nakasu!"
It is said that another important reason for holding this festival is to spread the image of Nakasu as a safe and clean town among visitors to Nakasu and restaurant patrons.
The 2,500-store shopping district of Nakasu, centered around Nakasu Boulevard in Hakata Ward, sets up food and drink carts as a sign of gratitude to its customers, and there are a variety of entertainment events, including geisha processions, Japanese drum performances, and professional wrestling tournaments.
The festival's specialty is the Nakasu Kunihiro Women's Mikoshi.
The Hakata Gion Yamakasa held in July is a festival for men, but the women's mikoshi held in October is also known as the "Women's Yamakasa."
The sight of around 500 women in happi coats running energetically through the streets of Nakasu shouting "Soiya!" is a must-see.
This year marks the 48th Nakasu Festival
The town of Nakasu is sure to be bustling during this period!
Carriers are recruited from the public, so any woman can participate.
If you are interested, why not come and visit the Nakasu Festival?
